OJAI
Theater's Dames to raise funds for ill performer
Ojai Art Center Theater's Dames will perform at 7 p.m. Tuesday in a fundraiser for Glenn Emanuel, a longtime local actor, dancer, writer and mime who has throat cancer.
Entitled "The Best of the Dames — Voices of Seasoned Women," the five women were last on stage May 23 in a free social for the Ojai Art Center Theater. They treated the packed house to a number of theatrical scenes, and will hold a similar show for Emanuel's benefit.
"Whether strutting the stage, taking over the dance floor, creating laughter with his mime routines or holding court over coffee discussing quantum physics, Glenn has been a part of the heart of Ojai for over 25 years," said his wife, Cheri.
Emanuel was a regular performer at the Ojai Shakespeare Festival and the Ojai Art Center, where he notably played in "Equus," "1000 Clowns" and "Our Town."
The upcoming show will present such pieces as "Dear Ann Landers," based on real letters; "Hot Flashes," about a woman reaching age 50; selections from Nora Ephrom's "I Feel Bad About My Neck,"; and the satirical "French Fries," set in McDonald's. All tickets are $20, although the theater will also accept larger donations.
The theater is at 113 S. Montgomery St. For more information, call 640-8797 or log on to http://www.OjaiACT.org.
