Ventura County sheriff's deputies called off a search on Sunday for a Los Angeles County man who disappeared Thursday in Lake Piru.
Officials said Victor Carrasco of Quartz Hill was boating with his family in the middle of the lake when he fell off the boat as he was trying to retrieve an object in the water.
Carrasco, 31, was not wearing a life preserver, said Capt. Tim Hagel of the Ventura County Sheriff's Department.
The department's Search and Rescue Team resumed the search for Carrasco at 8 a.m. Sunday but later told family members at the lake that the search would not continue today.
"It's just an odds game right now," Hagel said earlier Sunday. "The lake is a mile wide and 2 miles long and about 80 feet deep with a 5-foot visibility. The family tried to rescue him, but he quickly disappeared in the water."

Friends of the family. Yes Victor is from Santa Paula. He is a SPHS graduate; I believe class of 95'. He married in Arizona to Kelly, they had just celebrated 10 yr wedding anniversary. They have 3 beautiful girls, ages 5,7 & 9. The situation is very sad. Please pray for the family, no one can imagine the pain that this has caused them. Also, there has been an account set up for any donations; anything helps! Washington Mutual Bank Acct#8841742162.

I also live out of town and of course it is difficult to get info. I hope that this is followed up on and information is posted. I check the news several times a day hoping there are new news posted. I anyone know of anything new please post them. I just don't want to keep calling 24/7 bugging the family during these hard times. Thank You.

Nothing has changed. He is still missing. I just spoke w/ his wife Kelly who visits the lake everyday. All anyone can do for now is wait & pray. His family & friends need closure; it all seems like a BAD NIGHTMARE.
I'm glad that many of you are checking in, I will let Kelly know. I will also try to reach VC Star & see if we can get another story out there. The family wants volunteers from Search & Rescue. Maybe try again and do another search. Victor didn't deserve this. He needs to be FOUND!! He was a GREAT MAN, FRIEND, FATHER & HUSBAND! I'll make sure to post a message if anything changes.
Also, want to thank everyone who showed support on Saturday’s Car Wash, 7/14. We raised funds for Kelly & VICTOR'S little girls. THANK YOU ...Mambo & DJ Hecktik from the VIBE, Four Guys Liquor, Sports Wear 126, everyone who helped w/ the event & all visitors who came out to support w/ a donation. We raised $2500, all the hard work paid off.
Always in our prayers,
Milo & Carmen

Does anyone know when the funeral will be or where?
Posted by sdickey on July 26, 2007 at 3:41 p.m. (Suggest removal)
I DONT KNOW WHEN THE FUNERAL WILL BE HELD. BUT I HEARD FROM A FAMILY MEMBER IT WILL BE HELD IN PHOENIX SO HE CAN BE BURIED WITH HIS SON...
DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW OLD HIS SON WAS AND HOW HE PASSED?
Posted by csolis on July 27, 2007 at 8:49 a.m. (Suggest removal)
Kelly has taken Victor back to AZ. To be w/ their son, Victor Jr. who passed over 10 yrs ago. Those were his wishes, to be in the same cemetery where he was buried.
As for all the questions about the accident, we all don't know. The 2 people that were w/ him are still in shock and we cannot get full details. But his autopsy results were as “he simply drowned”. Everyone who knew him or was close to him doesn't understand how this happened. He was a good swimmer, was in good shape & health. It doesn't make sense. All we can make of it is that it was his time and God takes who he needs for a reason. Kelly is still grieving but remains strong for her 3 girls.
Here are the details on the wake & funeral:
SUNDAY 7/29 @ 6PM-8PM (WAKE)
Thompson Valley West Funeral Home
926 S. Litchfield
Goodyear, AZ
MONDAY 7/30 @ 9AM (BURIAL)
Holy Cross Cemetery
10045 W. Thomas Rd.
Avondale, AZ
