Caltrans reports sinkhole repaired

Highway 23 between Moorpark and Fillmore reopened about 2 p.m. Saturday after crews finished repairing a sinkhole, a dispatcher for the California Highway Patrol said.

The California Department of Transportation planned to close part of the Highway from 5 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday to repair the sinkhole, which appeared on Thursday.

Traffic in both directions was diverted around Highway 23 near Happy Camp Road on Saturday, according to Caltrans spokeswoman Jeanne Bonfilio.

The hole was about 3 feet wide at the opening and 6 feet wide at the base and was caving in when it was discovered Thursday. Lanes were closed for several hours for repairs. No vehicle damage or injuries were reported.
