Bail set for doctor in sexual assault case
Bail has been set at $500,000 for an emergency room doctor who was in custody Saturday after an arrest on suspicion of sexually assaulting two female patients.
Shamim Amini, 34, of Moorpark was arrested Friday night and booked into the Ventura County Jail on three sex-related charges including sexual battery.
The alleged assaults occurred at Simi Valley Hospital, which cooperated with Simi Valley police during a three-month investigation, according to police. The two alleged incidents occurred in April and May in the emergency room. One involved a woman seeking treatment for a hernia, and the other was injured in a traffic accident, according to police.
Jeremy Brewer, a Simi Valley Hospital spokesman, said Saturday the emergency department was still functioning as usual.
"The charges in no way impede service to the community," he said, adding that the hospital will continue to cooperate with authorities.
He said that the hospital contracts with an outside medical group for its emergency room doctors. However, he did not know the name of the group.

Preface: I am white, have only one middle-eastern acquaintance, and have no relation to the person in the article.
The comments made by mikee and stewie are racist, unjustified, and should be removed.
Hey mikee and stewie - if you think you're right in what you're saying, why do you hide behind an anonymous name?

I had to read the first two comments about three times after your post Pat before I realized the prejudice in it. I am now on track and see your view. Your right they were racist.
But I do say I hope they fire this pig of a doctor, its so obvious they did alot of detective work before they made an arrest on this. I hope he isn't allowed to ever work with women again.

Racism is when you judge people by their skin color. You are making assumptions about this person based strictly on his ethnicity. Just because you're middle eastern doesn't mean you are a terrorist or a criminal. That's just being small-minded and ignorant to stereotype people this way.

What IS in a name: Statistically, the average doctor charged with a sexual related crime is a white male; typical serial murderer, white male; average pedophile, white male; average drug related crime, black male; typical carjacking, black male; average race on race homicide, black male killing black male. Let's not forget the deadliest terrorist attack in this country before 9/11 was in Oklahoma; committed by AT LEAST two white males (and if you think they acted alone...).
Let's face it; the biggest threat to each of us in our daily lives is not from some extremists with names we can't pronounce, it is from our neighbors and fellow americans. That is the true price WE pay for the freedoms we enjoy!

Sickos come in all shapes, sizes, colors, religious affiliations and genders.....Race has nothing to do with this crime against women. That's what it was, a crime against women...Here's hoping the involved women find the support they need to heal emotionally and the strength they'll need as this case works it's way through the courts. The "doctor" needs to be put away....

Race does not matter but there is just no way it is coincidence that two women were assaulted on two separate occasions. Wonder how many more women there are that are afraid to come forward.

This is definitely sad news for the hospital and the community it supports. Both cases (trauma and hernia) require extensive physical examination by the physician (more physical than the general public would think.) It might be very difficult to prove their accusations. It's best to let this case play out before passing judgement on any party.
I wonder how many patients file complaints daily.
I wonder if the character of these patients are trustworthy.
I can't imagine with all the personnel around in the ER that these events can take place.
We'll see what the evidence proves.

rusmartin,Just a thought. Perhaps after the first assault she went along with the detective and worked for them to build a case ? Say after hours they hid a camera in there and then she had her appt. And it went down again but this time on FILM?
SVReader,Just FYI, the doctor who admits the patient is the doctor in care. That means going up to the patients room everyday and checking on them. So it could have happened there? right? I know it says it happened it the emergency room. But we do not always get the full story. And after months of investigation I would think that they would not make an arrest if they didn't have sufficient evidence.

AnnaWhaat,
Just FYI, the person that admits the patient is the primary care physician not the ER doctor. After the patient is admitted as an inpatient, the primary care physician takes over. The physician accused is an ER doctor.
