Resident helps nab robbery suspect

Port Hueneme police Tuesday arrested a 27-year-old woman suspected of breaking into vehicles and stealing property from them.

Police said a man contacted them about 4:40 p.m., saying he'd detained the woman, Daniella Garcia. The man said he saw Garcia break into a vehicle parked near Scott and Third streets and take property from it. He detained Garcia until police arrived.

Police suspect Garcia had broken into a second vehicle and taken property from it, as well. Garcia was taken to Ventura County Jail, where she was being held on bail of $25,000 on Wednesday.

Yeah, it's a good thing the citizen appredended the suspect otherwise she would have gotten away with it. The Port Hueneme Police don't go after car burglars.

In this present world where so many people are too cowardly or don't feel it's their responsibility to get involved... this man deserves our THANKS for his alertness and for caring enough to get involved when he sees a crime being committed!

Great job, Mr. Citizen. We need more like you who are willing to take a risk.

Daniela Ortiz Garcia has a minor criminal record in Ventura County, per public records, under the last name of Ortiz. One for drunk in public, the other an open case for a vehicle violation. Current charges factored in a previous offense or offenses so imagine she has a record outside of the county. Would be nice if we could send her back where she came from, eh?

The Port Hueneme Police Department does a great job, period. It's so funny how quick people are to point fingers and criticize rather than actually get involved within their community. And when I talk about getting involved I am not merely talking about complaining about what is wrong, but collaborating with fellow citizens and officers to develop a plan of action for change. Contracting with the Sheriffs department is not a solution. That lies in the community's willingness to facilitate change by doing something more than standing around being spectators.

Well I'm glad the guy that held her didn't get hurt. It was pretty stupid of her to try and break into a car in broad daylight! Geezzzz . I wonder if she was alone ,walking by or someone was in a vehicle nearby waiting for her?

you all need to get off the backs of the port hueneme police dept . put the blame where it belongs ,onthe DA's office. police make the arrests and the DA drops the charges i was a witness to two crimes in my neighborhood and since i was the only one to come forward and i am classified mentally ill by both the police and the DA office the charges were dropped due to lack of witness i was'nt even interviewed by the DA. i actually stopped a full grown adult from beating a young boy and i'm the crazy one lol so the next time you need the police call a gang member . i don't know to many of the police officers now been able to stay out of trouble for alot of years lol but the ones left i do know are very good folks who care about the folks that live in this city . now if your not breaking the law as far as tickets are concerned guess you have nothing to worry about

I've lived in PH for over a year, coming from Fillmore. I feel safer here than I did in Fillmore.
And I think having the sheriff's dept come in would
be a big mistake.
