Report: Roenick calls it quits after 18 years
Jeremy Roenick is retiring, a newspaper reported, after an 18-year NHL career in which he became the third-leading American goal-scorer in league history.
Roenick, a nine-time All-Star who played with four teams, sent a text message to a reporter at The Philadelphia Inquirer reading, "I'm retiring; is that still news?" The story was posted on the paper's Web site Wednesday.
Roenick played in 70 games last season for Phoenix, his second stint with the Coyotes, and had said late in the season he was considering retirement. He became a free agent on July 1.
Thrashers re-sign Kozlov for $11 million: The Atlanta Thrashers addressed one of their most pressing offseason concerns by re-signing forward Slava Kozlov to an $11 million, three-year contract.
Flames sign Iginla, Regehr to five-year contract extensions: The Calgary Flames signed captain Jarome Iginla and assistant captain Robyn Regehr to five-year contract extensions that begin following the 2007-08 season.

Beckham aims to play against Chelsea
David Beckham is confident he can recover from an ankle injury in time for his debut with the Los Angeles Galaxy in a July 21 exhibition against Chelsea at Home Depot Center.
Beckham's agent, Simon Oliveira, said the scan showed "no long-term damage."
"With the right rest and rehabilitation he should be training as planned when he arrives in the States," he added.

NASCAR penalizes Kyle Busch, Sauter
NASCAR has penalized the Nextel Cup teams of Kyle Busch and Johnny Sauter for rule infractions found on their cars during the postrace inspection following Sunday's race at New Hampshire International Speedway.
Both the No. 5 Chevrolet of Busch and the No. 70 Chevrolet of Sauter were found to have used unapproved parts and failed to meet the minimum front car heights.
NASCAR said Busch and Sauter were each penalized 25 points and their respective crew chiefs, Alan Gustafson and Robert "Bootie" Barker, were each fined $25,000 and placed on probation until Sept. 19.
In addition, Rick Hendrick, owner of the No. 5, was penalized 25 car owner championship points, as was Joe Custer, owner of the No. 70.

Bobcats come to terms with Carroll
Guard Matt Carroll and the Charlotte Bobcats came to terms on a six-year, $27 million contract.
A 3-point specialist, Carroll averaged nine points in 25 games to close that season, then 7.6 points the following year.
Magic pull offer for Milicic: The Magic pulled their qualifying offer for free agent Darko Milicic, making it unlikely the 7-footer will return to Orlando.
