Transit service gets new name, colors
South Coast Area Transit, which provides bus service in western Ventura County, has changed its name to Gold Coast Transit.
Officials say they are trying to give the public agency a fresh look as they move to retool their bus fleet this year.
Deborah Linehan, general manager at Gold Coast, said the agency hopes to have at least half of its fleet of 72 buses and vans renamed by early October.
The agency has 15 transit routes serving Ojai, Ventura, Oxnard and Port Hueneme.
It had been called South Coast Area Transit since 1973.
Linehan said the idea for a new name came after a decision to buy 26 new buses to replace older ones.
"It was a great opportunity to get a fresh look," Linehan said. "We wanted something that addressed who we are and where we are."
Gold Coast provides more than 3 million rides per year, including 75,000 on access vans that transport the elderly and people with disabilities.
Linehan said the bus-renaming process will be gradual, taking one paint job at a time. "We can't afford to have more than one bus out of service at one time," she said.
The agency's colors have also changed, to teal and gold. Linehan said the new pigments were a result of market research.
"We thought it was a fresh look that evokes ocean and clear skies," she said.

I think changing the name was a stupid idea! SCAT is a well branded name. It's like McDonalds changing it's name. Who is the einstein that thought of this? It cost money for a well branded business to change it's name, what a waste! SCAT could have used that money to lower fares.

Yeah, seems silly...but then again, some of us know that "scat" is a commonly used term for animal droppings (poo)...which is really silly also.
