Police arrest pair in Saturday shooting

Two people were arrested after a shooting in Ventura, officials said Sunday.

Cesar Gonzales, 27, and Lorraine Bausa, 26, both of Santa Paula, were booked into the Ventura County Jail on Saturday evening on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, negligent discharge of a firearm and possession of a concealed weapon.

About 5:45 p.m. Saturday, the Ventura Police Department received a 911 call about a shooting near Saticoy Avenue and Peony Street. Witnesses said a group of juvenile and adult males approached a vehicle parked in the area and were involved in an argument with the vehicle's occupants, according to a report.

The vehicle sped away, and witnesses reported hearing gunshots.

The other group fled from the scene, and patrol officers stopped the vehicle nearby, police said.

Police identified Gonzales and Bausa as occupants of the vehicle.

Anyone with information about the shooting should call Ventura police detectives at 339-4394.

This incident, on an otherwise beautiful afternoon, is a good example of what happens when the bleeding hearts allow a ghetto in the midst of good neighborhoods. This is especially distressing to me, inasmuch as there have been several shootings in the area of late, one of which included the innocent pizza delivery person who merely stopped to ask for directions. The intersection of Saticoy and Peony is where we enter to reach my daughter's home which is less than gunshot distance away from the Cabrillo Village. I am more than disturbed by this latest shooting.

El Campo, as Cabrillo Village is lovingly called, with Si Se Puede and Cinco de Mayo amongst the streets, is a hotbed of gang activity. This is Cabrillo Economic Development's first project. The machismo men of the neighborhood don't have the courage to do anything about it. As men, they are inept. They drink, make babies ... and make excuses for why the gangsters can survive in their neighborhbood. It is everybody's fault except theirs.

Cabrillo Economical Development is soon to build another project on our end of town and it, too, will end up a ghetto where seldom is heard an English word.

At a dinner last night, an associate and his wife told us of distress they are now undergoing. They have a nice home in which they raised a family. Their plans are/were to retire there. Their new next door neighbors happen to be Spanish speaking, There are at least two, possibly more families living in the home. Cars are routinely parked on the lawn. As with many previously nice neighorhoods of Ventura, it appears as if another one has been infected with a terminal disease.

What will it take to reverse the trend?
