Camarillo's Mendoza helps U.S. win
Camarillo High graduate Jessica Mendoza used her bat and glove to lead the USA National Softball team to a pair of wins in the 14th Canada Cup International Women's Fastpitch Tournament in Surrey, British Columbia.
On Sunday, Mendoza hit a three-run homer as the U.S. defeated Puerto Rico, 10-0, in three innings.
On Saturday, Mendoza made two outstanding defensive plays to help preserve a 1-0 win over Japan Elite.
"It was nice to see the bats come alive and be the USA team that we know so well, which we weren't yesterday," said Mendoza. "It's also nice to see the whole team, one through nine, come alive. That is USA at its best when every hitter is on, the pitching is great and there is solid defense."
