Word of the deal came Sunday, though the person spoke on condition of anonymity because under league rules the agreement can not be announced until July 11, the first day free agents can sign.

Champion marathoner Alberto Salazar remained hospitalized in serious condition at Portland, Ore., after collapsing the day before at the Nike campus.

Salazar collapsed Saturday while coaching distance runners at the campus outside Portland, Nike spokesman Bob Applegate said.
