Port Hueneme police said a local man was arrested this weekend after he allegedly made a bomb threat.
The suspect's ex-girlfriend called police at 11:30 a.m. Sunday to report he had called her and said he had put a bomb in her car, police said.
Police evacuated residences near the woman's home on the 500 block of Joyce Drive and called in the Ventura County Sheriff's Bomb Squad and the K-9 explosives unit from California State University, Channel Islands to check her car.
Authorities did not find any explosive devices.
Port Hueneme Police then arrested Richard Nuñez, 25, at his home on the 400 block of Corvette Street. He was booked into the Ventura County Jail on suspicion of offenses including making criminal threats and making a false report of planting an explosive.

Hmmmmm, I'm not defending this guy but... What evidence, other than his ex-girlfriend's word, do they have that this guy made the threat? On one hand I like to see things like this taken seriously as far too many women (and some men) are abused and killed by the men in their lives. In addition, anyone making a bomb threat should be thrown in jail. On the other hand however I am concerned that it takes no more than a phone call to police to get someone put in jail. What if she was being spiteful and wanted to get back at her ex? It just seems to me as though there ought to be some more proof.
