Oxnard fire causes $30,000 in estimated damages

An accidental fire in an Oxnard home Sunday caused an estimated $30,000 in damage, authorities said.

The fire in the kitchen of a single family home on the 2900 block of Jacktar Avenue was reported about 4:45 p.m., said Battalion Chief Darwin Base of the Oxnard Fire Department.

The blaze began when someone left a plastic toaster on the stove and a lit burner set it on fire, Base said. The fire then spread to cabinets.

Firefighters knocked down the blaze in less than 10 minutes and no one was injured, Base said.
