Clear, hot days predicted this week
Break out the beach umbrellas and clean up the pool; it looks like Independence Day is going to be a hot one.
With clear, sunny days piling up, the National Weather Service predicts temperatures will approach 100 degrees in some Ventura County valleys this week.
Ojai's temperature soared to 97 on Monday, and forecasts show the city's temperature rising to 99 today and 103 on Wednesday, said Stuart Seto, a weather specialist for the National Weather Service office in Oxnard.
The mercury is expected to remain in the 70s and 80s at the beaches this week. Oxnard's temperature is expected to hit 83 degrees Wednesday..
The warm weather is partly due to a high-pressure system in western Arizona, Seto said. The heat is pushing out from that system toward Ventura County like ripples from a pebble dropped into a pool, he said.
The National Weather Service predicts the days will stay hot through Friday, then cool off this weekend.
