Simi Valley house blaze displaces 8 people

A fire in the back bedroom of a Simi Valley residence Saturday afternoon left eight people without a place to live, at least temporarily.

The fire broke out shortly before 4:30 p.m. at a home in the 2600 block of Cimarron Avenue, the Ventura County Fire Department reported.

Sixteen units responded to the blaze, which was contained at 4:50 p.m.

No one was injured in the incident, but smoke damage was reported throughout the home's second floor. The Red Cross was on hand to assist eight displaced people, reported as five adults and three children on the Fire Department's Web site.

The cause of the fire was unknown Saturday night and remained under investigation. An estimate of the damage caused also was unavailable.

It is true that overcrowded electrical circuits can become overloaded and catch fire...and while it may also be true that too many people were living in one home, let's not forget how lucky WE are to not have to live in those crowded conditions.

It is so easy to speculate and voice how things "should be" in a perfect world, but most of the time that is not the case....

Let's remember to be thankful for what we have and be willing to come to the aid of those in need.....especially in our own community. God's grace should not stop at our front door.

There are several of us who would like to know if these folks need assistance and if so, what exactly do they need? Could you please put me in contact with someone that knows how to reach this family?

Thank you.
