Officials ID man who died in cliff fall
Authorities have identified the man who died when he fell from a cliff in Thousand Oaks Friday as Robin Cruz, 29, of Newbury Park.
Cruz's death was an accident, Ventura County Chief Deputy Medical Examiner James Baroni said Saturday.
The cause of death was "blunt force head injury," Baroni said after conducting an autopsy.
He said results of toxicology tests to determine whether any drugs were present in the body will not be available for three or four months.
Several hikers found Cruz's body Friday afternoon, the Ventura County Sheriff's Department reported.
The accident occurred in a canyon of the Arroyo Conejo, about one mile north of the Rancho Conejo Playfield, said Capt. Ross Bonfiglio.
There were no witnesses to the fall and investigators believe Cruz was alone at the time.
Several patrol deputies responded to the scene and had to climb through rugged terrain to reach the body, a sheriff's news release said.
A helicopter crew recovered the body from the narrow canyon.
