GIRLS' VOLLEYBALL
Westlake players compete at nationals
Three members of the Westlake High girls' volleyball team are members of the Gene's Team 18-1 that will compete in the National Junior Olympics July 3-6 at the Minneapolis Convention Center.
Shelynne Hoyt, Cathy Quillico and Mimi Sander of Westlake made the eight-person travel squad.
Hoyt and Quillico graduated last month. Quillico will be attending Boston College next fall. Sander will be a Westlake senior for the 2007-08 school year.
JUNIOR TENNIS
Jenna Ritz wins section honor
Thousand Oaks High junior Jenna Ritz was presented with the United States Tennis Association/Southern California Tennis Association's Sportsmanship of the Year award in the girls' 16 division for 2006.
She is a scholar-athlete with a 4.3 GPA.
Older sister Lauren Ritz teamed with Allison Ramos of Carson to place second in the Southern California Junior Sectional girls' 18 doubles event. She will be attending Yale University in the fall.
HIGH SCHOOL LACROSSE
Oak Park has five first-team players
Oak Park High placed five players on the Southern California Lacrosse Association all-league first team.
Westlake had three first-team selections.
Named to the first team are Blair Bennett, Brett Zeolla, Kyle Benton, Chad Costello and Corey Whelan, Oak Park; Mike Cammorata and Matt McGinnis, Agoura; Travis Abraham, Pat Barazza and Taylor Bright, Westlake; and Chase Manoukian, Calabasas.
Members of the second team include Nick O'Bryen, Mike Caspari and Chris DaCar, Oak Park; Chris Hogg and Josh Irvin, Agoura; Brad Wangerin, Brian Bates, Kevin Landand David Ruelas, Westlake; Jake Welty and Dan Rudolph, Santa Barbara.
Selected to the third team are Eric Rosenquist and Alex Schwartz, Calabasas; D.J. Moosekian and Luke Klein, Newbury Park; Grayson Phillips, Oak Park; Steve Cordial, Oak Park; Josh Bounds and Justin Hackman, Thousand Oaks; Nick Curcio, Westlake; Clay Venetis and Chris Vasquez, Santa Barbara.
Bennett scores at national showcase
Oak Park High's Blair Bennett scored two goals for the West in the consolation game of the National Senior Showcase, which was played in Denver last month.
Kyle Benton of Oak Park also competed in the tournament.

Santa Clara picks athletic director
Mike Schabert has been named as athletic director at Santa Clara High, principal Siobhain O'Reilly-Hill announced.
Schabert, an assistant principal at Santa Clara, previously worked as a school administrator at St. Paul High in Santa Fe Springs.
Santa Clara has coaching opening
Santa Clara is accepting applications for the varsity cross country coaching position.
