Dean, Schlopy named first team by CalHiSports
Two area athletes were named to the 2007 All-State softball first team by CalHiSports.com.
Camarillo High's Lindsey Dean and Taylor Schlopy of Oaks Christian were first-team selections.
Dean, The Star's player of the year for the last two seasons, was 20-2 with a 0.34 ERA and 254 strikeouts. She also batted .395 with 23 RBIs.
She finished her pitching career with a 67-8 record with 741 strikeouts and a 0.59 ERA. Dean will be attending DePaul University this fall.
Schlopy hit .482, stole 20 bases and was 13-3 with a 0.94 ERA and 191 strikeouts for Oaks Christian.
For her career, Schlopy tied for third on the state's list for career runs scored with 171 and ninth with 192 hits, according to CalHiSports.com.
Schlopy's 32 career triples tied a 20-year-old state record. She had a .474 career batting average and was 46-9 as a pitcher with 590 strikeouts and a 0.62 ERA.
Named to the all-state second team were Kacee Cox of Royal and Delaney Willard of Camarillo.
Cox hit .440, drove in 34 runs and had five triples.
Willard was the area home run leader with nine. She had 44 RBIs, seven doubles, scored 32 runs and had a .505 batting average.
Willard and Thousand Oaks Tiffany Messerschmidt were selected to the all-state underclass first team.
Messerschmidt batted .506 and had a county-leading 24 stolen bases.
Moorpark's Taylor Newman was an all-state second team pick. Newman batted .400 with four home runs and 19 RBIs.
