Man arrested after attempting to run over man

A Newbury Park resident has been arrested on suspicion of attempting to run over a pedestrian with his car.

Robert Fitzgerald, 26, was arrested late Monday morning at his home and charged with vehicular assault and vandalism, said Capt. Ron Nelson, a spokesman for the Ventura County Sheriff's Department.

The vandalism charge stems from the two parked cars Fitzgerald hit with his vehicle after he allegedly tried to run over an acquaintance with whom he was having an argument, Nelson said.

The incident occurred in the 1900 block of Woodcutter Lane in Thousand Oaks at 10 a.m. Monday.

The 30-year-old Thousand Oaks man who was the object of the assault was not injured.

The argument apparently began after the Thousand Oaks man borrowed Fitzgerald's truck and returned it damaged, Nelson said.

Fitzgerald posted bond and was released.
