The Star's Girls Golf First Team Profiles
PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Janelle Song, Oxnard
Song capped a strong four-year run at Oxnard with her best overall performance. Song posted a scoring average of 36.2, the lowest of any player in the county and was medalist in all but one of her matches. Her best score was a 3 under 33 at Victoria Lakes. The senior won the Pacific View individual title, while helping Oxnard win the team title for a second straight season. Song followed up with a strong postseason, where she advanced all the way to the CIF-SCGA Tournament. When she's not playing golf, Song enjoys swimming, reading and shopping. Her favorite band is Maroon 5, and her favorite television show is "Project Runway." Song enjoys eating sushi and watching the Lakers and Kobe Bryant. She in undecided about what college she will attend.
THE STAR’S FIRST TEAM
Kelsey Conway, La Reina
Coming off a strong junior season, Conway turned in another strong performance as a senior. Despite making swing changes over the summer, Conway still managed to post a scoring average of 39.0, capturing the Tri-Valley league individual title. Her play helped La Reina win the league title and become the only county team to reach the CIF team finals. As an individual, Conway reached the CIF finals as well. Conway is also strong in the classroom, carrying a 4.0 GPA and being a member of the National Honor Society. Besides golf, she enjoys traveling and working on the yearbook staff. Conway's favorite movie is "The Departed," and her favorite band is "Talking Back Sunday." She enjoys eating Mexican food and her favorite team in the New York Giants. She plans to attend William and Mary.
Kristina Cheung, La Reina
Cheung teamed with Kelsey Conway to provide La Reina with a strong one-two punch. Cheung turned in a strong senior campaign, posting a scoring average of 41 and finishing second to Conway for the Tri-Valley League race. Cheung was one of her team's most consistent players, and that helped the Regents win both the league title and reach the CIF team finals. Cheung is equally talented in the classroom, where she carries a 4.5 GPA and is a member of both the National Honor Society and the Quill & Scroll Journalism Society. In addition to golf, Cheung enjoys snowboarding, playing softball, traveling and working on the yearbook staff. Her favorite movie is "Forrest Gump" and her favorite television show is "The Office." Cheung enjoys eating Thai food and watching her favorite team, the Dodgers. She is undecided about what college she will attend.
Amanda Hawes, Simi Valley
This talented senior had another spectacular season, highlighted by an unbelievable performance in the Marmonte League finals. Playing against some of the county's best players, Hawes dominated the competition, winning the four-round tournament by 10 strokes, earning her MVP honors for the league. Hawes posted a scoring average of 38.12 and was medalist nine times. Her best score was a 2-under 34. Hawes is also a strong performer in the classroom, where she carries a 4.0 GPA and is ranked in the top 10 percent of the school's senior class. Hawes' favorite television show is "Desperate Housewives," and her favorite movie is "Stick It." Hawes enjoys eating pizza and listening to the band "Fergie." Her favorite athlete is Tiger Woods and her favorite team is UCLA. She plans to attend Cal State Northridge.
Remy Molyneux, Oaks Christian
In just her second varsity season, Molyneux blossomed into one of the county's top players. The talented sophomore teamed with Lauren Radke to give Oaks Christian two strong players at the top of its line up, and they helped the Lions make a strong showing in the Tri-Valley League where they finished second to La Reina. Molyneux posted a scoring average of 40.8 and was medalist in nine of the 11 matches in which she played. "Remy has shown improvement in her game in all areas, but most notably in her short game," said Oaks Christian coach Tim Meinert. Molyneux's favorite movie is "The Notebook." Her favorite television show is "What I Like About You." Molyneux's favorite food is sweet potatoes and her favorite team is USC.
Tiffany Uichanco, Westlake
The talented junior was one of Westlake's top players, helping the Warriors cruise to the Marmonte League title. Uichanco, who has been a member of the Westlake varsity team for three seasons, had a solid regular season, posting a scoring average of 42, with a low round of even-par 36. Uichanco finished second in the Marmonte League finals to Amana Hawes. Uichanco is also a gifted student, carrying a 3.6 GPA and winning scholar athlete honors for her team. When she's not playing golf, her hobbies include dancing and hanging out with friends. Uichanco lists "A Walk to Remember" as her favorite movie. Her favorite athletes are golfers Tiger Woods and Annika Sorenstam. Uichanco also enjoys watching the Los Angeles Lakers and USC play games.
