Motorcyclist died of head, chest injuries, officials say
The Chico man who was killed in a motorcycle crash over the weekend died of blunt-force head and chest injuries, according to the Ventura County Medical Examiner's Office.
Kurt Brown, 24, was traveling south on Rice Road in Ojai about 6:47 p.m. Saturday when he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into a wooden fence on the side of the road near Lomita Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol. An autopsy on Monday determined that both head and chest trauma contributed to the death of Brown, who was in Ojai to visit relatives.
Brown's passenger, Thomas Baughman, 25, of Arcata, sustained moderate injuries in the crash. He was taken to Ojai Valley Community Hospital for treatment.
Brown was wearing a helmet.
