Annie Michael, 100, says she's 'tough old gal'
Annie Michael turned 100 on Dec. 17. She was born to Sam and Susie Carmack in Birmingham, Ala.
She has been an Oxnard resident for more than 60 years after coming to California to work in a defense plant as a welder during World War II.
On Dec. 2, a birthday celebration and Carmack-Michael reunion was held at the Oxnard Elks Lodge.
Attendees included friends, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-grand nieces and great-great-grand nephews.
Some family members traveled from Arkansas, Oregon, Nevada and Texas, and one great-grandson and his family came from Alaska.
On Dec. 12, another 100th celebration was held at Glenwood Care Center in Oxnard, where Michael has lived for the past 21/2 years.
She credits her longevity and resiliency to working hard and "being a tough old gal."
