More from Cross Country
Front-runners from the start of the high school cross country, Alex Routh of Royal High and Simi Valley's Liberty Miller are The Star's Boys' and Girls' Runners of the Year.
Routh, a member of Royal's 2005 Division I state championship team, won the Marmonte League title, placed sixth at the Clovis Invitational and was 10th at the CIF Division I section finals, missing a chance to qualify for a third straight trip to the state meet by one place.
Beginning with her team's first meet of the season, Miller bettered most of Simi Valley's sophomore class course records owned by 2006 Star Runner of the Year Anna Sperry.
The Ventura County and Marmonte League champion was fourth at the CIF Division II final and placed 12th at the state championships in Fresno.
