Completed training

Marine Corps Pfc. Travis C. Ford has completed the three-month basic U.S. Marine Corps Recruit Training, graduating on Nov. 21 in San Diego.

Ford qualified as a rifle expert during his marksmanship training — one of the 20 percent of Fox Company who qualified at that level.

He will report to Camp Pendleton on Jan. 1 for School of Infantry. Assigned to the Infantry Training Battalion, he will receive nine weeks of occupational specialty training and then be assigned to his first permanent duty station.

Ford is the son of Brad and Debbie Ford of Simi Valley. He is a 2007 graduate of Royal High School in Simi Valley and joined the Marine Corps Delayed Entry Program in January.

The following have graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas: Michael H. Browne, David J. Davidson, Aaron T. Grace, Jason P. John, David P. Morris, James B. Nelsen, Irving A. Paz Tapia, Elliot Reuven, Macey L. Russell, Brian D. Smith, Francine L. Wolfkill and Daniel A. Zimbardo.

During the six weeks of training, the airmen studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations.

In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

• Browne is the son of Lupe Browne and stepson of Russel Anderson of Ventura. He is a 2006 graduate of Hueneme High School in Oxnard.

• Davidson is the son of Tracy Davidson of Ojai. He is a 2007 graduate of Chaparral High School in Ojai.

• Grace is the son of Lisa Grace of Ventura. He is a 2005 graduate of Buena High School in Ventura.

• John is the son of Doretta Burgess of Oxnard. He is a 1999 graduate of Hueneme High School in Oxnard.

n Morris is the son of Paul Morris of Oxnard. He is a 2000 graduate of South Torrance High School and received a bachelor's degree in 2005 from CSU Long Beach.

• Nelsen is the son of Brian Nelsen of Camarillo. He is a 2007 graduate of Newbury Park High School.

• Paz Tapia is the son of Antonio Paz of Thousand Oaks. He is a 2006 graduate of Thousand Oaks High School.

• Reuven is the son of Martha C. Reuven of Westlake Village. He is a 2007 graduate of Westlake High School.

• Russell is the daughter of Cheryl Thomas of San Pedro and the granddaughter of Howard Wullschleger of Camarillo. She is a 2002 graduate of San Pedro High School.

• Smith is the son of Paul and Rosa Smith of Simi Valley. He is a 2005 graduate of Royal High School in Simi Valley.

• Wolfkill is the daughter of Lupe Wolfkill of Oxnard. She is a 2007 graduate of Channel Islands High School in Oxnard.

• Zimbardo is the son of James and Theresa Zimbardo of Simi Valley. He is a 2005 graduate of Simi Valley High School.

Completed course

Marine Corps Pfc. Daniel M. Castro recently completed the Basic Food Service Course with Marine Corps Detachment, U.S. Army Quartermaster Center, Fort Lee, Va.

During the 11-week course, Castro received formal instruction and practical application in basic food preparation, management and food services. Castro also learned about nutrition, meat carving, menu planning, baking, kitchen health and sanitation procedures.

Castro also was promoted to his current rank.

He is the son of Galdina and Jose Castro of Thousand Oaks. Castro is a 2005 graduate of Thousand Oaks High School and joined the Marine Corps in March.

Deployed to Iraq

Army National Guard Spec. Joseph E. Cerda has been mobilized and activated for a future deployment to an undisclosed overseas location in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Operation Iraqi Freedom is the official name given to military operations involving members of the U.S. armed forces and coalition forces participating in efforts to free and secure Iraq. Mission objectives focus on force protection, peacekeeping, stabilization, security and counterinsurgency operations as the Iraqi transitional governing bodies assume full sovereign powers to govern the peoples of Iraq.

Members from all branches of the U.S. military and multinational forces are also assisting in rebuilding Iraq's economic and governmental infrastructure, and training and preparing Iraqi military and security forces to assume full authority and responsibility in defending and preserving Iraq's sovereignty and independence as a democracy.

The specialist is an infantryman normally assigned to the 1st Battalion, 185th Infantry, Fullerton, Calif. He has served in the military for five years.

He is the son of Joseph S. and Jennie Cerda of Oxnard. He graduated in 2000 from Hueneme High School, Oxnard.

Recently re-enlisted

Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Jason M. Cantrall recently re-enlisted for five years while serving aboard the guided missile frigate USS Gary, homeported in San Diego.

Cantrall is a 1991 graduate of Ventura High School. He joined the Navy in June 1991.
