Plane lands safely after landing gear malfunction

A twin-engine Cessna landed safely at the Camarillo airport this morning after a part of its landing gear malfunctioned, authorities said.

The front wheel on the plane's nose wasn't working, but the pilot was able to make a safe, if hard landing on the runway shortly after 7:30 a.m., said Ventura County Fire Department Spokesman Bill Nash.

The pilot was not injured. He was the only person on board the plane.

Firefighters sprayed the airplane with fire-retardant foam as a precaution.
