'A Tuna Christmas' drawing to a close

This is the final weekend for "A Tuna Christmas" by Jaston Williams, Joe Sears and Ed Howard at the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center. The play will begin at 8 p.m. today and Saturday.

With just 24 hours until Christmas, the whole town of Tuna (the third smallest town in Texas), is caught up in the trauma, chaos and all those surprises that make the holidays so special. This comedy features two actors, Will Shupe and Fred Helsel, portraying more than 30 zany citizens of Tuna.

The center is at 3050 Los Angeles Ave., Simi Valley.

Tickets are $20 for adults, $16 for seniors and students and $14 for children 12 and younger and can be reserved by calling the box office at 583-7900 or visit www.simi-arts.org for more information.

Swing band to play at Paul's Italian Villa

Paul Mole's 18-piece swing band will play at Paul's Italian Villa, 2585-I Cochran St., on the upper level. Doors open at 6 p.m.

Big band dance nights are on the first and third Fridays of every month.

Cost of the dance is $25 per person, which includes a buffet dinner. For reservations, call 526-5360.

SATURDAY

The Nutcracker' to be performed

The Moorpark Civic Ballet will present its 12th annual production of "The Nutcracker" at 2 and 7 p.m. at the Janet and Ray Scherr Forum Theater at the Thousand Oaks Performing Arts Center.

More than 100 dancers will fill the stage. Local talents from the community, including Natalie Leibert, 12, of Moorpark as Clara, are joined by a cast of performers from amateur to the professional level. Dancers who will also be performing are trained at the Performing Arts Center in Van Nuys and are from the Pacific Dance Academy, directed by Louise Mandel. Special guest artists include Dean de Luna from Texas and trained at the Boston Conservatory, and Rebecca Rasmussen, who is touring with the professional Dance Company Momix.

Moorpark Civic Ballet is a nonprofit organization with goals of enhancing the community by providing the art of dance through both education and entertainment and providing quality cultural programs accessible and available to everyone.
