The homeless, the elderly and those without a place to go are invited to attend a free holiday dinner Christmas Day at the Thousand Oaks High School cafeteria.
The dinner, sponsored by Conejo Community Dinners, will feature a traditional meal of turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, salad and cake, said coordinator Robb Greenberg. The cafeteria will be decorated with the work of local elementary school children.
"And we are working on getting entertainment," he added.
This is the 13th year of the holiday dinner. It is planned and executed by a volunteer staff, most from the Jewish temple of Adat-Elohim.
"Ninety-eight percent of our volunteers come from the temple," Greenberg said.
This is the first year Greenberg has served as coordinator of the dinner, and, he said, it is coming along well.
"It's a lot of money and time, but I know the dinner will be worth it," he said.
More than 400 people are expected. Greenberg said Leisure Village in Camarillo typically buses in groups of people.
"It will be nice to see so many people here, many of them who come every year," he said.
There will be games and gifts for children.
Big Mango Catering and Ideal Meats of Los Angeles will cater the dinner, which will be served from noon to 4 p.m. Thousand Oaks Cab Co. is providing free transportation to the dinner. Call 495-3500 to make arrangements.
Thousand Oaks High School is at 2323 N. Moorpark Road, Thousand Oaks.
For more information on the dinner, contact Greenberg at 582-4896.

I would just like to say that I have called numerous organizations to volunteer my time and serving food for the homeless on Christmas Day and not one has yet to call back.

It's nice to see something like this supported by volunteers of a different religion. It shows that while not everyone celebrates the same holidays, everyone can celebrate the spirit of the season.
