Authorities seize 389 roosters used for cockfighting
Hundreds of roosters used for cockfighting were rounded up in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties and four people were arrested during early-morning raids Thursday, authorities said.
Seven sites across Ventura County and one in Carpinteria were raided, said Capt. Jerry Hernandez, a spokesman for the Ventura County Sheriff's Department.
The raids followed a similar operation on Dec. 1, when deputies found almost 1,000 roosters used in a cockfighting operation outside Santa Paula.
Thursday's raids stemmed from information investigators gathered from the Dec. 1 raid, Hernandez said.
Deputies found 389 roosters Thursday, he said.
Of those, 221 were euthanized, and 108 were being kept as evidence.
Bacilio Alamillo, 55, Rafael Beltran, 45, Walter Sandoval, 29, and Armando Rivera, 44, were arrested Thursday on suspicion of possession of cock fighting implements, according to a statement from the Sheriff's Department.
About 100 people from sheriff's and animal control departments in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties as well as from the Ventura County Humane Society participated in Thursday's raids. Hernandez said more raids are possible.

Pitting animals against each other is entertainment to some people? It sounds like a drain on our tax dollars just because some people have ridiculous ideas regarding "fun".

Why euthanized the poor Roosters.... Unless they were mortally injured, they should have been set free or sent to farms across the State or ? ? ?

set free? If you set them free they would just kill themselves. They dont fight because they are forced.. they fight because its their nature. You cant breed them to eat.. their meat will make you sick. its something in the blood.
