AKA Founders' Day Celebration Set

Members of the Ventura County Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. will host the Centennial Founders' Day Celebration to honor the orginial nine founding members of this nation's first African-American sorority established in 1908 for college educated woman on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C.
Founders' Day 2008 activities will take place at the Hyatt Westlake on Saturday, Jan. 5. More than 400 members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority chapters located throughout Southern California are expected to attend. The event is not open to the public.
Countless volunteer hours were spent planning this event which will kick off year-long activities as Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority celebrates its100 year anniversary in 2008.
The Founders' Day event is chaired by Deloris Carn and co-chair Samwella King. Other members of the planning committee include Kenisha Amar, Letitia Austin, Lizzie Benton, Shirley Brandon, LeShune Clark, Kimberly Clarke, Rosalyn Degraffenreid, Juanita Hall, Mitzi Ivey, Iva Jeffreys, Stephanie Kelley, LaJoye Mallory, Ruby Manor, Kenna Odeghe, Celena Perry, Irene Pinkard, Helen Popoola, Cassondra Powell, Karla Simmonds, ToniSimmonds, Bettye Sims, Angi Smith, and Viola Spann.
