Authorities this morning identified the man killed Wednesday when a suspected drunken driver lost control of his vehicle on Highway 101 near La Conchita, plowing into a sports utility vehicle and a California Highway Patrol officer.
The driver of the sports utility vehicle killed in the 4 p.m. crash was Andres Parra, 21, of Phoenix, Ariz., said Shasta Gainer, a forensic pathology technician for the Ventura County Medical Examiner's Office.
Parra was pronounced dead at the scene.
The CHP officer was critically injured in the crash. Authorities this morning were still not releasing the officer's name.

This death had nothing to do with the safety of the road, it involved a drunk driver, please people - DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE. IF YOU DRINK, STAY HOME. My prayers are with you. I was on the road when all the sirens and rescue vehicles went by last night and wondered what was going on.

this was nowhere near La Conchita. it was in between emma wood, and seacliff. this was not an unsafe area. this more than likely had to do with a speeding driver, possibly alcohol and perhaps a malfunction of the persons vehicle.
my sympathys out to all familys involved.

He didn't die. You are mixing up your drivers. Also, the driver of the Ford is innocent until proven guilty, thus he hasn't been deemed a drunk driver yet.

yes guilty until proven innocent but regardless of that he is guilty of crashing into someone and killing someone.

Just formalities.
Posted by thsomerville on December 20, 2007 at 3:44 p.m. (Suggest removal)
Those formalities are what protect you when you're innocent. Those formalities are what people fight wars over...to keep those formalities in place so you don't just get thrown into jail because the government, or anyone else, decides you are guilty. Do you have any idea what a slippery slope it is to deem someone guilty without hearing the facts, or giving someone a fair trial? Do you remember what lynchings are? I teach political science at a local college and university, and I teach my students that it is just these rights that set us apart from many other places. Please don't forget that. Yes, this young man is guilty of killing someone, but who knows what happened. If it's not DUI related, it could have happened to any of us. If it was DUI related, sad to say, it could have probably happened to many of you on this comment board at some point in your life. That does not excuse the behavior by any means. I'm just saying let's give Mr. White his due process, just like you and I would expect if we were accused of a crime. He cannot be deemed guilty based on what the media says. It doesn't work like that for a reason. Geeze, what's up with you people? So easy to persecute someone, to the point of saying someone should burn in hell, when you have no idea what the facts or circumstances are. It's highly disappointing and depressing.

thsomerville -
keep in mind, he is guilty till proven innocent in the eye of the public. what people say on this board means absolutely zero in the courts. this is just people giving their opinions based on what is written in the article.
I would like to believe that a majority of the people commenting on these pages realize that this country still believes in innocent until proven guilty in the justice system. this blog is not considered the justice system. thankfully.

FedUp-
I'd like to believe you are right. I hope so. It's just very disturbing when people rush to judgment based on what the media tells them. It is a trend far beyond this accident. I just hope people realize that what you read in the paper and see on television news, is news, not fact. News that is framed and edited, for various reasons (intentionally and unintentionally), and sometimes distorts information. What is worrisome is that those on this comment board, with their summary judgments and opinions, are perspective jurors for all kinds of cases in our community. I hope, for the sake or our community and our justice system, they are a little more rational and thoughtful when placed in that role.

As spelled out in this articlehttp://www.cbsnews.com/stories... DON't just pull over when you see red lights in your mirror. Take the time to go to a well populated area and safer (not on a freeway) area. There are so many scams these days. With this tragedy however it wasn't a scam but a dangerous freeway shoulder. If I ever get pulled over I will take the extra time to pull off at the next offramp and head to a well populated area!

turns out this kid is a big time loser, who was headed for jail eventually. too bad he had to kill an innocent person, and hurt a hero in the process.
