Woman opens home for holiday dinner
Janice Jaynes explains it this way: She's Italian, which means she likes to cook and likes people.
So it only made sense to the Newbury Park woman that she should open her house to anyone who wants to come by and have a meal on Christmas Day.
Jaynes, 56, wants anyone who doesn't have anywhere to go, who may be lonely or just looking for a place to have a nice meal to come by her house on Christmas.
Much of her family is gone this year, so she wants to fill her home somehow.
She has no idea how many people will come or why they may do so. But she's getting prepared.
She's made the homemade meatballs for her signature lasagna, and she's going to make gallons of the homemade sauce for spaghetti she plans to serve.
And if that runs out, don't worry.
"You can always find something to feed someone," she said. "I'm Italian. Come eat."
If someone even needs a gift for a child they are bringing, she'll find that, too, she said.
She would like for people to let her know if they are coming so she can make enough food, but if people just show up, that's fine, too.
Her home at 704 Cayo Grande Court, Newbury Park, will open at noon. Call her at 797-0472.
