Ventura wrestling team stays perfect

Despite missing several starters to injury, the Ventura High wrestling team continued its early season success with a 39-23 victory over host Pacifica on Thursday night.

Ventura improved to 11-0.

"When you play (Pacifica head coach) Willie Dillon's team, we know he will always have his guys ready and prepared for us," said Ventura head coach Mike Gacha. "The guys were very inspired and had to give maximum effort to pick up this victory."

Jacob Archibeque pinned his 171-pound opponent in 1 minute, 41 seconds, and Omar Flores (135) registered a pin at 4:19. Tyson Howery, normally a reserve, filled in nicely with a 6-3 decision at 189 pounds.

HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLING

SIMI VALLEY 59, WESTLAKE 15

At Simi Valley

Highlights: Simi Valley — Kyle Armour pinned his 119-pound opponent in 52 seconds. Garret Hecker (125), Chris Organ (140), Leo Abuzid (189) and Jon Hamm (215) each won by fall.

Record: Simi Valley 2-1, 2-1 Marmonte League.

AGOURA 51, MOORPARK 24

At Agoura

Highlights: Agoura — Jeff Tabachnick (112 pounds), John Combes (152) and Casey Van Gelderen each registered pins in less than two minutes. Moorpark — Kyle Nance, Cody Gillette and Saul Garcia each won by major decision.

Records: Agoura 7-3, 2-1 Marmonte League; Moorpark 0-3, 0-3.

GIRLS' SOCCER

THOUSAND OAKS 1, WESTLAKE 0

At Thousand Oaks, Tuesday

Highlights: Thousand Oaks — Samantha Rivera scored with an assist by Rachel Morris on a corner kick. Goalkeeper Laura Brain recorded her second consecutive shutout.

Records: Thousand Oaks 2-0, 1-0 Marmonte League; Westlake 3-3-2, 0-2-0.

BOYS' SOCCER

RIO MESA 2, FILLMORE 1

At Rio Mesa

Highlights: Rio Mesa — Dustin Figueroa scored the game-tying goal in the 67th minute and assisted on Jeffrey Hirashima's winning goal a minute later. Francisco Ruiz played well on defense. Javier Marquez had an assist. Fillmore — Genaro Guzman scored in the 63rd minute.

Records: Rio Mesa 4-2-1, Fillmore 3-5-2.

PARAMOUNT 4, OAK PARK 1

At Oak Park, Tuesday

Highlights: Oak Park — Wes Taylor scored and goalie Chris DeCar made six saves.

Records: Paramount 5-4-2, Oak Park 3-5.

CALABASAS 1, SIMI VALLEY 0

At Calabasas

Highlights: Calabasas — Trent Clifton scored off of a rebound and Trevor Nathanson recorded 16 saves in his season's first shutout.

Records: Calabasas -2, 1-0 Marmonte League; Simi Valley 6-1, 0-1.

GIRLS' WATER POLO

HUENEME 10, NORDHOFF 8

At Nordhoff

Highlights: Hueneme — Tee Lopez scored seven goals and Olivia Hernandez had two. Goalie Randi Ring made 13 saves. Nordhoff — Emily Dymond scored three goals. Lindsay Wilson and Harley Neiderhiser each scored twice.

Record: Hueneme 4-6,

MILKEN 9, VILLANOVA 6 (OT)

At Villanova

Highlights: Villanova — Michelle Horgen led with three scores.
