Bellringer: Dec. 20
The Star's annual Bellringer drive will run through Christmas, with the newspaper publishing daily, except Mondays, a list of new contributions. Although the newspaper acknowledges all contributions, donors can remain anonymous if desired. All money raised will be given to the Salvation Army to serve needy local people.
Woman is carrying on tradition started by mom
During the holidays, Ventura resident Judy Farrar continues an annual tradition first started by her mother, June.
For almost 20 years, Judy has donated to The Star's annual Bellringer drive.
"My mother passed away in 1989 and she has always been a supporter of this event ever since it started," said Judy. "I just carry on the tradition in her memory and also donate in memory of anyone who has touched me in my life and has passed on."
Judy donated $50 this year in memory of her uncle, Gerald Farrar, who died over the summer; a good friend, Richard Burns; and a neighbor, Pete Bapiste.
