Ventura College's new website - www.venturacollege.edu - debuted this month! Apply, register, and go through orientation online. Classes start January 7 at VC!

Registration is currently ongoing at the three community colleges of Ventura County. At Ventura College, returning students began registering online by appointment only on December 3. All students could register online beginning December 10, with no appointment required. High school (9 th - 12 th grades) special admission students began registering in-person at the Admissions and Records Office on December 11. Walk-in registration for all students other than K-8 special admissions students begins January 2. K-8 th grade students may register beginning January 7. Students may register for full semester spring classes through January 18 in person and January 20 online. Additional late start and short term courses are available that begin in January, February and March. Students interested in these or any courses at Ventura College may visit www.venturacollege.edu to apply and register online or call the counseling office at 805-654-6448 for additional information. The college offices will be closed for the holidays from December 22, 2007 until January 2, 2008, but online registration remains available 24 hours a day. Ventura College is offering a wide range of new classes for Spring 2008. Most of the courses are transferable to colleges within the UC and CSU systems. Among the new classes offered this spring semester, which begins January 7, are:FIELD BIOLOGY: Encourages students to step outside the classroom for a change and explore the world around them! Visit the Tide Pools of Anacapa Island, learn about native plants and animals of SoCal, watch migrating gray whales as they travel along the Pacific Coast and hike through Santa Cruz Island and identify species not found anywhere else in the world. INSURANCE FUNDAMENTALS: Designed for the general public and business students alike, this course covers the fundamentals and differences among the various types of insurance, like auto, health and life insurance, homeowners' and renters' policies, as well as commercial insurance, plus a look at the inner workings of insurance companies.MOVEMENT FOR THE THEATRE: Focuses on theory and practice of stage movement, developing the body as an expressive instrument, acquiring flexibility, relaxation, fluidity and creative expression. RAPID DESIGN & PROTOTYPING: Design special projects such as toys and small part models, building these models on the Stratasys Rapid prototyping machine and bring these design ideas to life!INTRODUCTION TO DRAMATIC LITERATURE : Explores dramatic texts from ancient Greece to modern times. Analyze a variety of plays with emphasis on their historical context, their production history, and their modern production possibilities. The class will attend performances at VC, at the Rubicon Theatre in Ventura, and at the Ensemble Theatre Company in Santa Barbara. SURVEY OF ALTERNATIVE AND INTEGRATIVE MEDICINE: Introduces students to various alternative medicine health practices. Topics include acupuncture, acupressure, herbal remedies, hypnosis, meditation, nutrition, exercise therapy, chiropractic and more. Students will learn to analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of alternative health practices.APPLIED MACHINING 1: Gives a hands-on metal shop experience for those students wanting to BUILD something! This is a chance to check out our very complete lab with over $250,000.00 worth of machine tools for student use. A very exciting opportunity for students to create that special project for pleasure, home or work!TRIATHLON CONDITIONING : Offers both novice and experienced athletes the opportunity to develop and to hone their racing skills. Use the Aquatic Center and the new all-weather track and field stadium. Perfect your personal training schedule! THE CHANGING FAMILY: Examines the changing definitions of what comprises a family within a multicultural American society. Analyzes the concepts of commitment, love, and intimacy found in human relationships, and explains their importance to forming lasting partnerships. Discusses controversial issues involving marriage, divorce, singlehood, dating and parenting. Two new Short Term classes in ELEMENTARY ALGEBRA, an 8 week class from January 7-March 6, and INTERMEDIATE ALGEBRA, a second 8 week class from March 10- May 14, will allow students to complete two algebra classes in one semester.New Saturday courses include FUNDAMENTALS OF SCREENWRITING and INTERMEDIATE SCREENWRITING which present both theory and practical application.
