Morning Report: Two displaced by apartment fire in Ventura

A blaze in a Ventura apartment started when combustibles near a heating element caught fire and did an estimated $15,000 in damage.
Police and fire: Two people were displaced from a Ventura apartment last night after flammable materials near a heating element caught fire and flames spread to the apartment's bedroom, authorities said.
The fire was reported in a second-story apartment on the 1200 block of Petit Avenue at 8:29 p.m., according to a prepared statement from the Ventura Fire Department.
When firefighters arrived at the apartment, they found it filled with smoke from a blaze in the bedroom. They extinguished the flames before they could spread to adjacent apartments.
A smoke alarm had alerted the apartment's occupants when the fire started, according to the statement.
One occupant suffered moderate smoke inhalation injuries and was transported to Ventura County Medical Center for treatment.
Fire investigators estimated the damage to the apartment at $15,000.

Firefighters early this morning extinguished a fire in a greenhouse in unincorporated area outside Oxnard, authorities said.
The blaze in the approximately 200 by 75 foot fiberglass structure was reported in a greenhouse on the 3600 block of Etting Road about 10:30 p.m., according to the Ventura County Fire Department.
Oxnard firefighters, federal fire personnel and Ventura County firefighters responded. They had put out the flames by about 12:30 a.m.
No on was injured in the fire.
The cause remained under investigation this morning.
No damage estimate was immediately available.

Power went out to part of south Oxnard when a transformer blew about 10 p.m. last night, authorities said.
Hemlock Street was closed near Brookside Avenue for about two hours while crews from Southern California Edison fixed the transformer, said Sgt. Andrew Salinas of the Oxnard Police Department.
Oxnard residents who lost power had it back by this morning, he said.

Traffic: At 6:31 a.m., the California Highway Patrol was reporting a non-injury traffic collision on Highway 118 eastbound on the Tapo Canyon Road offramp in Simi Valley.
Earlier, the CHP responded to a report of a vehicle in the bushed on the northbound Vineyard Avenue onramp to Highway 101 northbound.

Weather: Rainy conditions with high temperatures in the 50s are expected today, the National Weather Service reported.
It was just misty along the Highway 101 corridor from the southern county line to Camarillo early this morning, but the rain could become heavy this afternoon, according to weather service forecasts.
A flash flood watch for recently burned areas is scheduled to go into effect at 9 a.m. and last through this evening.
