House sales plunged in November
Sales of new and existing houses and condominiums plunged 42.7 percent last month in Ventura County, DataQuick Information Systems reported Tuesday.
There were 516 units sold in November, compared with 901 for the same month a year ago.
The median sales price fell 9.7 percent from a year ago, from $577,500 to $521,250, according to the La Jolla-based real estate information service.
In Southern California, home prices continued to slide last month but sales picked up from October. There were 13,173 sales in November, up 2 percent from October, but down 42.7 percent from 23,005 for the same month last year, DataQuick reported.
"Last month shows how lower prices have lured some people back into the market — especially the new-home market, which claimed the lion's share of the November sales gain," DataQuick President Marshall Prentice said in a release.
Last month's sales were the lowest for any November since DataQuick began recording market statistics in 1988. The previous low was in November 1992, when 15,446 homes sold, according to DataQuick.
