Morning Report: Newspaper deliveryman carjacked in Ventura

Police and Fire: Ventura police are looking for two men suspected of carjacking a newspaper deliveryman early this morning.

The carjacking was reported at 3:35 a.m. in the 11000 block of Citrus Drive in Ventura, authorities said.

The deliveryman, who delivers The Star, was outside his car when two young men approached him and asked for a ride, Ventura police said. When he declined, the men pushed him out of the way, jumped into his car and drove away.

Police this morning are looking for the vehicle, described as a red Toyota Tacoma pickup from the late 1990s with bundles of newspapers in the back. The license plate number is 6A54968.

Anyone with information about the crime is encouraged to call Ventura police at 339-4394 or make an anonymous call to Crime Stoppers at 385-TALK.

Tipsters who give information that leads to an arrest could receive up to $1,000.

Traffic: At 6:49 a.m., the California Highway Patrol was reporting that a vehicle had crashed into the center divider of Highway 101 northbound just north of Hampshire Road in Thousand Oaks.

Another collision was reported on Highway 33 at Highland drive outside Ojai.

Weather: It's partly cloudy throughout the county this morning and more clouds are expected to gather this afternoon, the National Weather Service reported.

High temperatures in the lower 60s are expected today, and there is a 40 percent chance of rain after midnight, according to weather service forecasts.

Rain is likely tomorrow.

So here is a newspaper carrier, trying to earn an honest living, victimized by "two young men."

Some Venturans may have noticed criminal gang graffiti that appeared in areas of the East End Sunday AM. It was especially noticeable in the area on and around the West end of Henderson Road near the curve where it intersects with Thille. The graffiti was courtesy of the friendly gangsters of Cabrillo Village.

Anybody reading this post --- if you can provide information sufficient to lead to the arrest of a tagger, call Crime Stoppers at 385-TALK(8255). You could receive a reward up to $1,000 and anonymity is guaranteed. You will not be asked for your name and there is no caller ID on the bi-lingual call center's line.
