TO man killed in car crash identified
Authorities this morning identified the man who was killed in a solo car crash in Thousand Oaks late last night.
Tim Whinery, 41, of Thousand Oaks, was pronounced dead at 10:49 p.m. at the scene of the crash near the intersection of Pederson Road and Calle Almendro in Thousand Oaks, said Senior Deputy Medical Examiner Armando Chavez.
The accident occurred about 10:45 p.m. when Whinery, who was driving westbound on Pederson Road at high speed, lost control near Calle Almendro, according to a prepared statement from the Ventura County Sheriff's Department.
He was killed instantly when his vehicle slid sideways into the center divider and wrapped around a tree, according to the statement.
Investigators this morning had not determined what caused Whinery to lose control of his car, said Capt. Rick Barrios of the Sheriff's department.
Pederson Road was closed near Calle Almendro for about five hours following the collision.
