Information sought on Ventura fires

City of Ventura Fire Department investigators are seeking information about three fires that occurred late Saturday night.

The first fire occurred about 10:11 p.m. when two acres burned at the Ventura River bottom near the West Main Street bridge, fire officials said. The bridge was shut down for a couple of hours.

Firefighters then responded to a trash bin fire at 10:59 p.m. two blocks away in the 280 block of West Main Street.

A third fire involving palm trees was reported about 11:50 p.m. at Garden Street and Harbor Boulevard near the Ventura County Fairgrounds. Investigators said the third fire was started at one palm tree and spread to two additional palm trees. Embers then spread to two additional trees at the fairgrounds. Railroad service was shut down for about two hours, officials said.

No one was injured, and the damage estimates were undetermined as of Sunday.

Officials are investigating whether the three incidents were related. Anyone with information is asked to call the Ventura Fire Department at 339-4300.

Lots of whackos out there as we have around the Oxnard area. Firebugs are a sick bunch. Hope they get caught or maybe they can just set themselves on fire like the Monks of the Vietnam era.

It probably WAS local Venturans. Why is it that every time Lily-white Ventura has crime they blame it on Oxnard?
Oxnard does, indeed, have its share of crime and criminals. But, so does Ventura. Don't blame Oxnard for your own home-grown malcontents, and domestic terrorists.

Arsonists are complete sicko's. I had a home burn in the Malibu hills, as many of my neighbors due to partying fools in caves. Arsonists should experience what it's like to lose everything and what suffering is caused. Jerks.

the first 2 fires might have been started by homeless people trying to keep warm.
