Truck overturns on Hwy. 101
James Glover II / Star staff Caltrans employees clean up fluids from a truck that overturned on the Rose Avenue onramp to the northbound Highway 101 on Thursday.
Northbound Highway 101 was closed Thursday after a big rig overturned and spilled a load of broccoli onto the roadway, authorities said.
No one was injured.
The driver, James Gallagher, 35, of Freedom, Calif., was speeding while attempting to access the highway about 4 p.m., sending the truck sliding on its driver's side across all three northbound lanes, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The left and center lanes were open by 5 p.m. and the right lane was open by 5:20 p.m.
The Rose Avenue onramp to the northbound 101 was closed at 7:30 p.m. as crews attempted to right the truck.
The broccoli was removed from the road by hand, a CHP spokeswoman said.
