A man was hospitalized with moderate injuries this morning after his pickup truck went off the right side of Highway 101, flipped over, and crashed into a stand of trees, authorities said.

The solo rollover accident occurred just after 6 a.m. at the Sanjon Road offramp from Highway 101 northbound in Ventura.

It took firefighters more than an hour to rescue the man from his vehicle because of the position of the flipped pickup, said Battalion Chief Luis Espinosa of the Ventura Fire Department.

"It was a lengthy and difficult extrication," Espinosa said. Firefighters had to remove parts of the vehicle to keep from further injuring the trapped man, he said.

After firefighters freed him from his vehicle, the man was transported to the Ventura County Medical Center for treatment.

The Sanjon Road offramp was closed temporarily this morning while the firefighters worked to rescue the trapped man.

How was the man taken to the hospital? Was it the fire department who transported him?

I agree with AnnaWhaat, these men and woman put there life on the line everyday for us. My son is a firemen and I am amazed at how generous people are; he has had people drop of new pillows, bedding and food to the staion. I would have never thought to dropp off pillow, but he loved it.

How'd this turn into a plea to donate stuff to the fire dept? Be thankful that the person injured is well. The fire dept do a great job. It's there job and they get paid well to do it. If you feel the urge to donate and help someone in need, give to a homeless shelter this time of year. Or all year for that matter.
