Holiday Dreams On Ice' to aid children
The fundraising skating event "Holiday Dreams On Ice" will be at 7:30 tonight, 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at Oxnard Ice, 830 Wagon Wheel Road.
The Channel Islands Figure Skating Club presents the annual skating event to raise money for foster and abused children in need during the holiday season. Proceeds will be donated to the Children's Services Auxiliary of Ventura County through the "Spence & Bob's Children's Fund of KVTA Radio." This year's productions showcase skaters from beginning tots and adults to special Olympians and regional and national competitors.
International fitness guru and former professional skater Sheila Cluff returns in an expanded role as Mrs. Santa Claus in "Holiday Dreams on Ice."
Cost is $10 for off-ice bleacher seating, $25 for on ice reserved seating, and $18-$22 for general on ice seating. Tables for four are $185 (extra person is $44) and include hors d'oeuvres, desserts and beverages. Call 988-4440 for tickets.
Holiday event to showcase talent
The Camarillo Family YMCA is holding its holiday talent show at 7 p.m. at 3111 Village at the Park Drive, Camarillo.
The event will feature music, dancing, comedic acts and more. Also featured is a drawing with prizes for both children and adults.

Parade of lights set in Ventura Harbor
A parade of lights and fireworks display will light up the sky today and Saturday. Each day, festivities and carnival start at 5 p.m., the boat light parade at 7 p.m. and fireworks at 9 p.m.
During the 31st anniversary of this family-oriented occasion, children can meet Santa and holiday-dressed characters such as polar bears and penguins. There are carousel rides, live bands for dancing and more.
Admission and parking are free. On Saturday, a free water taxi departs from 5 to 7 p.m. in the boat ramp launch area and returns after 9 p.m. A free bus shuttle departs from Harbor Boulevard and Schooner Drive, regularly from 5 to 10 p.m.

Ripsnorters hold final square dance
After 32 years of dancing, the Ripsnorters are having one last dance from 7 to 10:30 p.m. at the Camarillo Community Center, 1605 Burnley St., Camarillo.
The caller will be Mike Seastrom, and Gus DeFore will cue. Rounds will be at 7 p.m. and squares at 8 p.m. The theme is "Rockin' Round the Christmas Tree." For more information, call 48201.
Holiday Celebration slated for pavilion
Oceanview Pavilion's Performing Arts Theatre by the Beach will present its second annual Holiday Celebration for the entire family at 6:30 p.m..
There will be a toy drive for Toys for Tots, Santa, local entertainment by Frank and Fremont Junior High School bands, Tina's Ports of Paradise, Pianist Emi Goleta, Oxnard High School Band and more.
The event is in collaboration with the Wounded Warrior Project.
Tickets are $7 each, with free parking in Lot E.

Bands to battle it out in Newbury Park
Newbury Park High School's instrumental music department is sponsoring a battle of the bands competition in the school's gym.
Six local bands — Aces High, Avant Garage, Backline, Girlwater, Massoyer, and Shadows of Illusion — will perform starting at 2 p.m. Julie Ramos, disc jockey at Santa Barbara's KTYD 99.9 FM, will serve as judge.
The event is a fundraiser for the music department, which is raising money to purchase new instruments.
Donations can be mailed to the music department in care of director Dennis Crystal at Newbury Park High School, 456 N. Reino Road, Newbury Park, CA 91320.
Tickets for the event are $7 for students with a school ID and $10 for adults or students without a school ID.
Tickets can be purchased in advance through the music department's student leadership program at the high school.

Dance club sponsors holiday dance
The Thousand Oaks Dance Club will have a holiday dance from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the Goebel Senior Adult Center ballroom, 1385 E. Janss Road.
The doors will open at 7 p.m., and music is by The Unforgettables. Singles and couples are welcome, and light refreshments will be served. Admission is $5 for members and $7 for non-members. For more information, call 381-2744
Last Chance Holiday Boutique scheduled
The Last Chance Holiday Boutique, sponsored by the Arts Council of the Conejo Valley, will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Hillcrest Center for the Arts, 403 W. Hillcrest Drive, Thousand Oaks.
Gifts, food and entertainment, including a special appearance by singer Nancy Lee playing her dulcimer, are all on tap.

YMCA to offer Parents' Night Out
Parents can take advantage of an evening out, courtesy of the Camarillo Family YMCA. Children can be dropped off for a night at the Camarillo Family YMCA from 6 to 10 p.m.
While parents are out shopping, attending holiday parties or merely taking a breather from holiday festivities, their children will be eating pizza, playing games and creating holiday crafts.
Parents' Night Out is available for children 3 to 10 and costs $13 for Camarillo Family YMCA members and $25 for nonmembers. Space is limited.

Card making for soldiers offered
There will be an open house from noon to 5 p.m. in Simi Valley where participants can make a card for a soldier spending the holidays in one of California's veterans hospitals.
