The Poinsettias of Cemetery Park
12/12/2007 Wednesday, December 12, 2007 One of the season's grandest displays doesn't use electricity but it has become one of my favorites of the Christmas Season. The Poinsettias that line the fence at Cemetery (AKA Memorial Park) Park on Poli Street in Ventura always bloom at this time of year. Once poinsettias were common in Ventura in fact they were so common that our nickname long ago was the Poinsettia City. There are still some nice examples in the community but none rival the row of tall plants near the old cemetery. Maybe there is something in the soil there that makes them bloom so great at this most special time of the year. Next time you drive Poli Street glance over at the wondrous display of scarlet flowers that line the fence.
