More from OpinionIt may seem early to be pondering spring, but not when it comes to enrolling for spring semester at Ventura, Oxnard and Moorpark colleges.
In addition to the three Rs, there are classes in personal fitness, Photoshop, screenwriting, business communication, theater appreciation — 3,000 classes in all in 100 majors.
And it's a bargain at just $20 per unit, free if the student is still attending high school.
Enrollment is under way now, with the new semester beginning Jan. 7. Online registration is open; high-school special admission students can register in person at the Admissions and Records Office; walk-in registration begins Jan. 2; students in grades 9 or below can register starting Jan. 7. Registration continues through Jan. 18 and online through Jan. 20.
It's not your father's college semester or even your father's college student. Today's students, of all ages, can enroll in traditional day classes, but the colleges also offer many evening, online and even weekend courses. Oxnard College has also opened a Student Success Academy, with basic-skills instruction in math, English and reading.
