Property owners of the 4-acre field next to the River Ridge Golf Club in Oxnard have offered to donate the parcel rent free for the Dallas Cowboys 2008 training camp if the team and city strike a deal.

"It's in their hands," Howard Katz, vice president of community development for Beverly Hills-based Casden Properties, said Tuesday.

City Manager Ed Sotelo was unavailable for comment.

Rich Dalrymple, director of public relations for the Cowboys, said Tuesday that no decision has been made yet.

"We're looking at all our options right now, and nothing's been finalized," Dalrymple said. "We'll have something to say when we have something to say."

Asked about the other options, Dalrymple said, "We're in a contract situation with San Antonio."

Dalrymple declined to elaborate.

The Cowboys trained on the fields by River Ridge in 2001, 2004, 2005 and 2006. Prior to that, they trained at California Lutheran University from 1963 to 1988.

This year they started a 5-year contract with the city of San Antonio to use the Alamodome rent free.

The team signed the San Antonio contract knowing that a religious convention would use the dome in 2008 during training camp from July 29 to Aug. 13.

The city sold the 4-acre fields to Casden last year. Katz said the company would donate the training field and an adjacent 10-acre lot, which has also been used to accommodate the camp.

Katz said he spoke to city officials on Friday and Monday. Both parties were scheduled to discuss the matter in Oxnard this week. Katz, however, said the meeting wasn't necessary.

Why not try to attract a team that doesn't suck?

Yes! Yes! Yes! Bring back The Boys, Oxnard! Do something right for a change.

GWAR, pull your head out of the ground and check their record. Then come back when you have something intelligent to say.

Apparently the Cowboy facility in San Antonio is booked for some Church convention during the training camp...They are looking for a temporary back up...but like the rep said...they are in a contract....They are probably looking to bill the owners of the San Antonio facility the cost of having to move their camp to Oxnard....Thats why he had no comment on the facility being available for free....that cant go and hang that on the other facilities owner...The Cowboys are a winning team this year..I still hate them...same as the Stankees...The suck as well
