Two local events celebrate 4th year

A few weeks I was lamenting the fact that it seemed like the car show season had ended. Not in this column, mind you, just in the office.

Apparently someone was listening since a couple of shows have popped up on my radar, both of which are holding their fourth annual events this year.

The first one will be held Sunday in Westlake Village as the Motor4Toys Charitable Exotic Car Show will be held Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Countrywide Financial Corp., 31303 Agoura Road.

Besides being a car show in the traditional sense, with tons of vehicles to be shown off, the event also collects toys for Toys for Tots.

Admission is free, but organizers ask those planning to attend to bring an unwrapped toy valued at $10 or more. Each toy donated will earn a raffle ticket for prizes.

Last year, the event collected more than 11,000 toys and Motor4Toys has donated more than 19,000 toys to Toys for Tots in the last three years.

This year, organizers have set a goal of collecting 15,000 toys for the popular charity.

Besides the car show and toy collection, Motor4Toys hopes to set a record with a parade of more than 400 Ferraris. As of Thursday night, more than 160 Ferrari owners have pledged to attend the event from all corners of the U.S.

The show runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

If cars aren't your thing (and if not, why are you reading StarWheels? Do you like my column that much?) check out the David Mann Chopper Fest at Seaside Park in Ventura.

Running from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., the event is a tribute to nationally renowned motorcycle artist David Mann whose images kick-started the chopper craze.

It will feature a bike show with hundreds of contemporary and vintage motorcycle models, new and used parts swap meet, original David Mann artwork, custom bike builder displays and a performance by the Victor McLaglen Motorcycle Stunt and Drill Team.

Originally from Kansas City, Mo., Mann moved to Ventura County in the 1970s to work for Easyriders magazine. He lived in Oxnard until he became ill with emphysema, and he and his wife Jacquie moved back to the Midwest. Mann died in 2004, a day after his 64th birthday.

Mann's art of the chopper and motorcycle lifestyle was popular for decades, gracing magazine pages, art gallery walls, and motorcycle shops and garages. His quintessential motorcyclist lifestyle paintings led to his induction into the National Motorcycle Museum Hall of Fame just before his death.

General admission is $10. Military personnel who show military identification cards will be admitted for $5 and children 12 and younger are free.
