Locals place at World Body Surfing finale

More from OutdoorsThe 31th annual World Body Surfing Championships were held in 3-5-foot surf on both sides of the Oceanside pier on Aug. 25 and 26.
There were 314 contestants from ages 12 to 75. Entries included bodysurfers from the East Coast, Hawaii, Australia, France, Brazil and from all over California.
Ventura-based South Jetty Swells Bodysurfing Club was represented by 27 entrants with many of the surfers making it through preliminary and quarterfinal heats only to be eliminated in the semifinals. Thirteen club members made it to the finals.
Danny Lorch of Camarillo finished first in the boys' 12-14 division. Michael Lorch of Camarillo placed third in the boys' 15-17.
Sean Jappe of Ojai was first in the 18-24 men's division and Ojai's Spencer Ford was second.
Dave Ford of Ojai won the 25-34 division, with Ojai's Chris Ford placing fourth and Bart Templeman fifth.
In the 55-64 division, Jim Isaac of Ventura placed third.
In the 65 and over, Al Templeman of Ojai took second and Summerland's Jerry Springer was third. Tom Beardsley of Ojai placed fourth.
In the women's 18-29 division, Paden Voget of Ojai finished sixth.
In the women's 45 and over, Carly Ford of Ojai took fifth.
