Camarillo vs. Ventura

Location/time: Ventura, 7 p.m.

2006 records: Camarillo 4-7; Ventura 4-7.

Storyline: Two programs with rich postseason histories — they met in a 1984 CIF title game — collide in what is expected to be a strong defensive game.

Santa Clara vs. Hueneme

Location/time: Pacifica, 7 p.m.

2006 records: Santa Clara 10-3; Hueneme 3-7.

Storyline: Both sides have strong offensive weapons. Hueneme is strong in the air, while Santa Clara will rely on Cierre Wood, who rushed for 2,002 last year.

Fillmore vs. Channel Islands

Location/time: Channel Islands, 7 p.m.

2006 records: Fillmore 7-3, Channel Islands 4-6.

Storyline: Fillmore replaces many of its headliners from its co-Frontier League championship team. Channel Islands will be looking for a new heir for graduated QB Greg Gonzalez.

Villanova vs. Western Christian

Location/time: Maranatha High, 7 p.m.

2006 records: Villanova 4-6, Western Christian 4-6.

Storyline: While attacking defenses with running game has been Villanova's Plan A, the coaching staff can shift to passing game of QB Jerrod Arbuckle.

Lompoc vs. Oaks Christian

Location/time: Oaks Christian, 7:30 p.m.

2006 records: Oaks Christian 15-0, Lompoc 3-7.

Storyline: Last year's stellar senior class has graduated, so what can the Lions do for an encore? Chris Potter, Marcus Jones and Co. have a good idea: Keep winning.

Westlake vs. Waipahu

Location/time: Hawaii, 10 p.m. (PDT).

2006 records: Westlake 12-1, Waipahu 1-0 (in 2007).

Storyline: After being on the islands for nearly a week, Westlake should be fully rested for its opener. RB Cooper Shockley averaged nearly 90 yards rushing over his last five games in 2006.

Give credit where credit is due. Santa Clara is a great team and they were Co Frontier Champions as well as Fillmore.
