Morning Report: 111 degree heat expected

Weather: The National Weather Service this morning issued an excessive heat warning for county valleys and mountains as temperatures were predicted to reach potentially dangerous heights.

Despite partly cloudy conditions this morning, temperatures up to 111 degrees are expected in valleys today, according to weather service forecasts.

Beaches are expected to be cooler, with temperatures in the mid 70s.

To avoid heat related illnesses, the weather service recommends staying out of the sun during the hottest part of the day and drinking plenty of fluids.

The heat warning is set to go into effect at 10 a.m. and expire at 7 p.m.

Traffic: At 6:41 a.m., the California Highway Patrol was reporting traffic hazards on Highway 101 southbound at Victoria Avenue in Ventura and just north of Conejo Scales in Thousand Oaks.

----------

Police and Fire: A 37-foot fishing trawler ran aground at Laguna Point north of Point Mugu about 3:10 a.m., U.S. Coast Guard officials reported.

No one was injured in the accident, said Boason's Mate Kenny Cook. It was not clear this morning what caused the trawler to run aground.

A salvage vessel arrived on scene this morning to push the trawler back into the water.

Just how is a salvage vessel going to "push" a trawler back into the water.

A boatswain (often bosun or bos'un) is a member of the deck department of a ship.

Onboard U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard vessels, boatswain's mates and deck seamen comprise the deck department

Doesnt anyone do any reasearch before writing these articles....where is the editor.....heck..where is the spellchecker

They will wait for high tide, tie lines to the trawler and haul it to deeper water. Pushing it is an inaccurate description, much like their unfortunate spelling of the bosun's mate. I don't think the Star has editors that actually read the articles published in their sections!
