Man to be tried in case involving the slaying of an Oxnard man
A judge on Thursday ruled there is sufficient evidence to try a Taft man for the murder of Robert Nunez, 28, who was found shot to death at Ormond Beach on Jan. 3, according to prosecutors.
Senior Deputy District Attorney Stacy Ratner said Francisco Barajas, 20, is being charged with first-degree murder because Nunez, of Oxnard, was killed during a robbery.
"All the possessions of the victim were taken from him at the time," she said.
Ratner said the District Attorney's Office hasn't decided whether to seek the death penalty.
Barajas was arrested Feb. 28, county records indicate. He is also being charged with second-degree robbery.
Barajas' next hearing is scheduled Oct. 4 in Ventura County Superior Court. He is being held without bail in the county jail.
