Joe and Janice Mendoza were married at the First Baptist Church in Redlands, California on August 17, 1957. Both were recent graduates of the University of Redlands, where they had met in a class on "Christianity and the Bible." The professor, Dr. Gordon Hines, officiated at their ceremony.

Following the ceremony, they embarked on a trip to Mexico City in their 1957 Ford Fairlane, without air conditioning, unsure of gasoline supplies and faced with rough roads ahead. This was the first true test of their marriage.

Returning to work and school, they continued their education at UCLA and USC. This May they revisited the Redlands campus to attend their 50th class reunion, which also coincided with the University's 100 year centennial.

The couple and their two children have resided in Ventura for over 40 years. Joe has been in the field of education 50 years and is currently employed by the Ventura County Supt. of Schools Office of Education as a Director. Janice previously worked for Los Angeles County Health Dept. as a PHN and school nurse.

To commemorate this milestone, celebrations were held at the Marriott Hotel in Ventura and the Four Seasons Biltmore in Santa Barbara. Other get-togethers are planned for the fall.

Both appreciate those who have touched their lives with good will and friendship over the years. Looking ahead, they hope to continue lifelong learning, service to others, and following in the footsteps of their faith.
